If you've been living in a news vacuum for the last couple of years we thought we'd fill you in. During the summer of 2006 Israel and Hezbollah had a little tiff in Southern Lebanon creating an unnecessary distraction from the Lebanese's main summer activity, partying. This year, apart from the odd spat up north and a few targeted assassinations, things have simmered down slightly. The Foreign Office warns against non-essential travel, but being hedonists we won't let that get in the way of what we want to do, after all measured risk is what it's all about....

OK, so this type of weekend isn't limited to autumn, but we're assuming that you don't want to go in the busy Christmas / high summer periods. This is the place to head for long nights of wild partying surrounded by beautiful women, all fuelled by the best vodka that money can buy. What better place to blow that bonus (or drown your sub-prime sorrows). ...

Berlin is one of the most exciting cities in Europe at the moment. Still bearing the scars of its troubled past, it is now an avant-garde and offbeat hub of artists, musicians and fashionistas. Berliners are not in the game of trying to forget the past. Monuments and museums throughout the city show a desire to honour the victims of Germany’s recent history. However, commemorating need not be a solemn affair. Join in and celebrate the day East and West Germany were officially reunited - head to the Brandenburg Gate for live entertainment, food, drink and lots of dancing....

In the Russian winter furs and vodka are a necessity not an option, as temperatures can sink to -20° and the streets are filled with slushy snow. But whilst it may be cold, it certainly is rather romantic, making Moscow a surprisingly fun winter destination. Spend a long weekend exploring the backstreets of Arbat, viewing galleries or walking in Gorky Park, warming up with a gluhwein en route. In the evening, take in a ballet or concert, follow it up with a fabulous dinner then experience some of the city's renowned clubs until the wee hours. ...
